Long Form Content

Definition

Long form content is content, typically written or video, that takes an above average amount of time to consume.

Although long form content typically refers to written content, it can also refer to video content or podcasts. As with written content, definitions of long form content vary, with different marketers considering videos of different length to be "long form."

What is the difference between long form and short form?

The exact word count required for a piece of content to be considered "long form" is a matter of contention. Some marketers consider content over 500 words to be "long form," whereas other marketers routinely create content that exceeds 2000, 3000, or 4000 words.

How do you write long form content?

How to write long-form content:

  • Establish intent and level of solution awareness
  • Create an outline
  • Ensure each section can stand on its own
  • Hook the reader with an engaging introduction
  • Use visuals only when they add to the content, not just to "break it up"

Is video better than text?

This depends entirely on the search intent. If the content is best delivered in video format, then video is absolutely better than text. But, if the intent allows for some level of skimming, text may perform better than video.

What is long form video content?

Although long form content typically refers to written content, it can also refer to video content or podcasts. Typically long form video content has a content arc (beginning, middle, and end) and is longer than 10 minutes.
